Basavanagudi :

ನೆನಪು and Notes

Basavanagudi is often reduced to its dose counters and temples, but the neighbourhood holds far more in its everyday streets and routines. Through photographs, landmarks, food spots, and personal notes, this book looks at the area beyond its usual highlights as a place lived in, returned to, and slowly understood. A collection of fragments rather than a complete story.

About the project

Basavanagudi has always felt like ‘namm area’, the familiar side of the city you never really have to explain.

Basavanagudi has always been close to me. There are places you visit, and then there are places that slowly begin to visit you back. The wide roads, the parks, the small restaurants, the flower markets, the mix of noise and calm. It feels grounded. It feels lived in. This project comes from that closeness. Instead of documenting the neighbourhood like a tourist or an outsider, I wanted to document it the way someone remembers it. For me, Basavanagudi represents what makes Bengaluru feel like Bengaluru.

Impact & Relevance

This project goes beyond documenting a neighbourhood, it explores how design can capture intangible qualities like memory, familiarity, and atmosphere.

The outcome is not just a book, but a trigger for shared memory. When experienced, it invites readers to connect their own stories to the place, turning individual documentation into something collective and relatable.

More importantly, the project reflects an approach where design is not about adding visual complexity, but about framing, sequencing, and giving meaning to existing narratives. It highlights how thoughtful structure, restraint, and context can transform everyday observations into a cohesive and engaging experience.

Instead of documenting the neighbourhood like a tourist or an outsider, I wanted to document it the way someone remembers it. For me, Basavanagudi represents what makes Bengaluru feel like Bengaluru.

The primary objective of this project was to create a structured

book that captures the layered identity of Basavanagudi. a) Documenting the neighbourhood through writing and photography. b) Creating visual rhythm across multiple spreads. c) Maintaining cultural authenticity through typography and language. d) Balancing personal reflection with historical research. e) Designing a consistent and readable layout system. f) Producing a finished publication that feels cohesive and intentional.
